Richmond’s commercial pulse once flowed through the Kanawha Canal Turning Basin, and on Thursday that pulse flows again with the opening of the Virginia Street Farmers Market.
Richmond’s biggest farmers market operator, GrowRVA, launches its newest outdoor market in Shockoe Slip tomorrow with more than 25 vendors, including six farms, two wineries and a wide variety of craft cheeses, desserts and artists.
“With all the growth and excitement surrounding the Shockoe Design District, the Turning Basin is ready for this,” says Karen Atkinson, owner and operator of GrowRVA, which produces the South of the James Farmers Market at Forest Hill Park, and the Virginia Street Gallery art gallery in Shockoe Slip.
The Virginia Street Farmers Market opens May 10 on Virginia Street in the Shockoe Design District. Richmond’s only farmers market with its own water feature runs every Thursday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. through October 25 and will be located in the area around the Virginia Street Gallery and near the Canal Walk and Turning Basin.
